Known as one of the countries original luxury home furnishing stores Arighi Bianchi asked us to help bring their unique shopping experience into their online store.

Background

A history of craftsmanship, quality and style

Arighi Bianchi’s story began in 1854 when Antionio Arighi and Antionio Bianchi began manufacturing and selling high quality, handmade furniture. Flourishing quickly, it gained a nationwide reputation and the patronage of Kings.

 

Today, the fourth-generation family business is best known for its handpicked products that embody style, quality and provenance.  Since its opening in 1883 their Grade II listed store continues to offer an outstanding retail experience.

History

Creating eCommerce that works

When we first met, Arighi Bianchi was known for its extraordinary instore experience but, as their website couldn’t offer what they needed, it wasn’t a priority. It wasn’t bad, it just didn’t match their processes, operations or products. These limitations meant that it could never be more than a secondary part of their day-to-day business.

 

Knowing that their greatest growth potential lay beyond bricks and mortar, they could see that to succeed online they'd need a better solution, one that really worked for them. This was around the time they approached us to help, and working together we’ve made it a reality.

We understood that there were several key ingredients involved in creating the right solution, one that made eCommerce really work. On one hand the store had to elegantly blend content and products into a luxury, easy to use, experience. On the other, it needed to integrate seamlessly with their ERP and business systems whilst making product administration and content authoring simple and efficient.

The challenge

Arighi Bianchi’s instore experience encourages shoppers to move seamlessly between open discovery and purposeful focus. Expertly tailored, it works for both shoppers with specific products in mind, as well as “browsers” looking to explore, learn and be inspired.

 

Collaborating closely, we took these principles and brought them online. From arrival, the experience is designed to be inspiring and engaging, yet simple to navigate. We wanted shoppers to naturally move between browsing and being able to easily find and purchase products.

Instore online

Today, consumers browse and shop using all their devices, especially their phones, and expect their mobile experience to be as good as any other. The site needed to work for a variety of shoppers, arriving, at different stages in their purchasing journey, on a range of devices

 

Instead of simply scaling the site design down from desktop to mobile, and accepting the compromises, we deliberately focused on how functionality and individual elements should be optimised for each device. Concentrating on getting the best experience across multiple devices we’ve seen big improvements in engagement and purchasing, and not only on mobiles

Ecommerce Everywhere

324% increase in sales

Ecommerce is ultimately a retail channel and success is measured in sales. Arighi Bianchi’s new online shop was working well, orders and key metrics steadily increased, and within 18 months sales had risen by an impressive 183%.

 

We knew that the next stage in continuing this growth was to optimize the pathways from browsing to purchase. If we could remove any friction from the purchase process we would be able to increase conversion rates.

Observing and understanding shopper behaviour is crucial in ecommerce. A combination of insights and metrics from Google Analytics, Hotjar and Full Story helped us identify then monitor improvements. Focused optimisations meant we were able to improve the checkout process and reduce basket drop off by 73%.
